The BEAR CLAW DRYWALL REPAIR CLIPS are designed to replace a damaged section of drywall with a new section of drywall. The clip is superior to the thin metal repair sheets because it replaces the damaged section with a full 12.5mm piece of drywall instead of a flimsy metal patch. This helps to maintain the sound and fire integrity of the original wall. The BEAR CLAW DRYWALL REPAIR CLIPS work by using a series of "Claws" compressing into the existing wall. The clips tabs are used to make the face of the patch board perfectly flush with the face of the wall. Many of the repair products presently on the market use the back of the drywall to align the patch. Unfortunately, not all drywall is the exact same thickness and sometime the patches are either depressed or project past the wall. With the BEAR CLAW DRYWALL REPAIR CLIP a 12.5mm (1/2") piece of drywall can be used to patch 12.5mm (1/2"), 15mm (5/8") or 25mm (1") board equally well. How's that for versatility!

The BEAR CLAW DRYWALL REPAIR CLIP is simply the easiest and fastest method of repairing holes in drywall. After learning the simple process for repairing damaged drywall with the BEAR CLAW DRYWALL REPAIR CLIPS, anyone can fix a hole in two to three minutes.

The BEAR CLAW DRYWALL REPAIR CLIPS gives professional looking results. The clip is made of 0.38mm (0.015") thick metal (about the thickness of a corner bead), so it is easy to cover with joint compound.

How To: Use Your Bricky / Build A Wall



To set out the first course place a brick at each end/ corner on a generous bed of mortar, check that they are placed the correct distance apart, square if it's a building and horizontally level to each other. Level by using a laser level, a line string level (very small light level that hangs on the stretched line) or a straight edge long enough to rest on the ends with a standard builders level on top. Stretch a line using your Masons Mate between the ends, place the first bed of mortar freehand using your trowel, use the vertical guide to place the mortar between the bricks and lay the line of bricks, top edge set 1mm back from your stretched line. (Setting out is clearly illustrated on our build it DVD).



After the 1st course is laid out use the horizontal bricky guide, scraping the mortar into the channel as you slide it along. Place 2 bricks at each end of the wall pressing them into the mortar beds to secure a firm bond. One every course as you lay the end/ corner brick level to ensure vertical alignment. Place the string line and lay the line of bricks. Note -Brick sizes can vary, if upon placing the last brick on a course the joint is too tight or too wide remove 2 or 3 back and space the joints evenly however don\'t get too fussy about this, if you look closely at any brickwork you'll find slight variation in the joint spaces.

Every 4 hours as your mortar has started to set go back over your work and strike the joints using the the Pro-pointer to get a perfect pointed finish.

Using Bricky At Corners ...

The lug underneath touches against the corner brick ensuring that the mortar bed finishes perfectly at the corner.

As you proceed around the corner the lug at the back ensures perfect positioning of the Bricky.

Proceed along the wall.



Block Work

Use the trowel to press mortar into the central channel then scrape across to level off. Note the perfect bed of mortar with absolutely no mess! Plaster in the vertical joint. Press the block into both the horizontal and the vertical bed of mortar to secure a firm bond.



Block On Flat / Double Brick Wall

Unscrew 2 of the steel lugs on the wide side of the tool and use it to lay that perfect bed of mortar on half of the course. Place on the other half of the mortar bed freehand (using your trowel) or get a 12mm thick piece of timber about 1m long x 100mm wide and put a nail through it near each end, 6mm in off the edge as illustrated.

Tips

Calculate your wall dimensions to full or half sized bricks/blocks. This avoids unnecessary cutting.

The natural colour of mortar can look quite bland. It\'s common for brick walls in particular to add some mortar dye in the mix to enhances the appearance. (I prefer black but use just half the recommended amount, this leaves a grey joint as opposed to black).

Ensure bricks are not dried out. Spray them with water if necessary but leave to surface dry before placement. (Dried out bricks absorb the moisture from the mortar, this then forces the mortar to set too quickly and prevent it gaining full strength.)

Lay out brick heaps and spot boards every 2 meters apart to have mortar and bricks under your nose at all times.

Keep your tools reasonably clean as you work and clean well at the end of each day a rag to hand is quite useful.

Do not point your joints until the mortar has started to set. (1-4 hours after placement). The half hour before lunch and end of the day is when a bricklayer comes back to point up their work.

A round nose gauging trowel (as supplied) works best when building with your bricky.

Use the light durable skin tight rubber brick laying gloves as the mortar may pierce your skin especially if your working for prolonged periods.

Laying brick/blocks is physical work but instead of crying from the pain think of what you'll achieve and how fit your getting in the process beats spending time/money in the gym.

Meet The Inventor

Noel Marshall was born on 6th May 1975. He grew up on a small farm near Ballygarvan county Cork, Noel is the 2nd from a family of 5 children their childhood was a far cry from the play station age that has engulfed our current generation. From the age of 5 or 6 before school he would be out at 6am helping with the work around the farm these jobs included milking 3 cows by hand, rearing calves, pigs and hens. With everything done by 8am Noel his older brother and three younger sisters walked 2 miles to their local school. His father combined the farm work with holding down a full time job as a builder with the county council.

Noels creativity was evident from an early age often making his own toys from wood and always engrossed during construction work conducted on the farm. At school Noel could only engage on practical subjects but he excelled in these; woodwork, maths and science. From age 11 Noel worked during the summer holidays at a local concrete paving yard producing slabs and laying patios. He cycled 6 miles to and from each day starting work at 8am. His senior colleagues were astonished at the kid’s ability to work; Victor Kelly his boss as this time remarked.

“As a small kid he processed great strength speed and stamina and just always knew what to do. Each summer he’d bring an incredible energy to the place. Everyone adored him and we all had that sense he’d do great things. His inventions are testament to the guy’s practicality and drive they are so simple yet brilliant. All our wishes are behind him”

Noel Left School before his final year and joined the army as an apprentice carpenter, while naturally excelling at the practicality of the carpentry he struggled with conforming to the other facets of army life. Geared for productivity, spending days preparing for inspections and drills frustrated him to the point of utter boredom. This lead him to take up endurance running which he also excelled at, going on to represent Ireland at international level he trained hard with aspirations to qualify for the Olympic marathon however the combination of consistent injury and overtraining eventually ended this quest - PB’s include 24:58 for 5 miles and 51:32 for 10 miles.

“I entered the sport late and failed my ultimate goal not from a lack of effort; for six years I periodically trained flat out twice a day seven days a week. I became plagued with hip injury as I pushed to hit that exceptional Olympic standard. Competitive sport is a very grounding experience, you need to push yourself to the limits of human endeavour to reach a high level” - Noel Marshall

Noel left the army 6 months after producing the first Bricky prototype. Initial funding of €650K for production and marketing was sought from 25 local investors, today the Bricky is by far and away the most successful hand tool invented since the turn of the century. The Masons Mate and Pro-pointer were later additions to Marshalls invention portfolio.

Noel Left School before his final year and joined the army as an apprentice carpenter, while naturally excelling at the practicality of the carpentry he struggled with conforming to the other facets of army life. Geared for productivity, spending days preparing for inspections and drills frustrated him to the point of utter boredom. This lead him to take up endurance running which he also excelled at, going on to represent Ireland at international level he trained hard with aspirations to qualify for the Olympic marathon however the combination of consistent injury and overtraining eventually ended this quest - PB’s include 24:58 for 5 miles and 51:32 for 10 miles.

Noel left the army 6 months after producing the first Bricky prototype. Initial funding of €650K for production and marketing was sought from 25 local investors, today the Bricky is by far and away the most successful hand tool invented since the turn of the century. The Masons Mate and Pro-pointer were later additions to Marshalls invention portfolio.

The Story:
An inspired brick cutting device that eliminates waste and overcomes the lack of precision and repeatability of conventional brick cutting techniques. It makes consistent high quality cuts with several bricks, reducing the amount of time and effort involved.

Paul Bonner, Ireland

Paul Bonner has had a close working relationship with bricks all his life. A professional brick layer from Derry in Northern Ireland he’s worked on a countless number of building sites, and over the years he noticed time and again that there are a number of stumbling blocks when using bricks to construct buildings.

On occasion it is necessary to cut bricks to a specific required size, for example at the end of a wall. Bonner, like all builders was using methods that had served the industry reasonably well for generations; either using a hammer directly to knock a brick into shape or using it to hit a chisel that has been positioned at the desired spot. The problems with these approaches are that they lack precision, are not repeatable, and waste a lot of material. In addition, the size of the cut should always be measured and marked, which is a time-consuming process.

Frustrated by the time factor and by the amount of waste that these methods generated, Bonner was convinced that there must be a better solution. He decided to see if he could do better and came up with the True-Cut Brick and Block Cutter. It is a time-saving and cost effective way of cutting bricks down to size and means that individual bricks no longer have to be marked and measured to perform repeated cuts. The tool just has to be set the once, then it can cut as many times as is necessary. Adjustable bars allow a user to measure the required length, the blade can be locked at many angles in 15 degree increments, and the entire device can be positioned over any brick which means there’s no longer any need to measure every single one. To make the cut you simply hit the spring-loaded bolster with a hammer. It is a robust little tool, being made from ABS (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) and according to Bonner his invention cuts brick wastage by up to 50%.

Although there are devices already in the market place which reduce the risk of making uneven and inaccurate cuts they do not reduce the time factor because measuring is still involved. They also have two blades which pushes the price up.
Bonner’s brick cutter is also a significant step forward in making construction sites a safer place. Its overall design means that a builder’s hand doesn’t have to be close to the spring-loaded bolster when bearing down on it with a hammer.

Prototype and Patent Application; The clever contraption started life on Bonner’s sketchpad in 2004 and he already had a good quality prototype and had filed for a UK patent application when he approached British inventor Trevor Bayliss whose company helps inventors to commercialise their innovations. They helped him to file an additional design registration and found him a manufacturer who was so impressed by his idea, that they immediately snapped it up through a licensing agreement, and took it from late phase prototype to mass volume production. It was ready for sale in 2007, and has been flying of the shelves of DIY stores in Ireland, Holland, the UK, and it has also been a popular item on the QVC shopping channel. Bonner’s brick cutter is fast becoming an essential addition to every builder’s toolkit.
